My husband is taking Ultra Inosine for Bell's Palsy. Research done through the Harvard Medical school concluded that Inosine can help neurological disorders such as a stroke, or spinal cord injuries back in 1997. According to what I read, this compound makes the axons in severed or damaged nerves reach back to each other for connection. Michael J. Fox just received a 5.6 million dollar grant to help fund research about inosine in Feb, 08 for help in Parkinson's. Now, I am not a doctor, but we noticed improvement in his condition almost immediately. The severity of the "drooping" in his face picked back up within the first few days of taking 2 pills, 3x's a day. I have also read that taking over 5 grams a day can cause kidney stones, so please discuss this with your doctor. He has just stuck to taking 3 grams, a dose he feels comfortable with. Although he still has Bell's Palsy, (which is the paralyzation of either one or both sides of the face from the brown down to the chin, compounded by loss of taste and difficulty chewing and swallowing) his symptoms have greatly improved, and he can taste again!! I personally think that this is a good supplement for anyone who is suffering from damaged nerves. HOWEVER, the bad side to it can be that it appears the stimulation of the nerves may cause pain in the affected area. My hubby thinks it's well worth it, because he knows he is getting better. But, the ER doctor told him when diagnosed that when he started to recover, he would experience pain. So, it appears as if it's just par for the course with Bell's Palsy. This ultra formula has antiviral additives, which appear to also make it the better choice, as Bell's Palsy is believed to be brought on by a virus, by some physicians.
