I sometimes have anxiety- sometimes like a faint background hiss, at its worst more akin to dread, not wanting to go out, etc. These feelings are exacerbated by stress, life stressors, etc. Such feelings manifest in varying degrees at various times, sometimes barely there, other times making life difficult. I tended to rely on my ability to talk myself out of it, but sometimes I couldn't.
I've tried a few psychopharmaceuticals that didn't work, worse then the symptoms, like prozac (turned me into a complete nutjob). Other things made me feel underwater or left me unable to function. I've tried a few natural substances too, like GABA, l-theanine, etc. with little effect (kava helped some, but not consistently). Everyone's biochemistry is different, of course.
I recently read that choline is calming, and a family member taking this for liver problems gave me some to try. I found surprising relief (a sense of well-being, everything's just FINE) after taking it for 2-3 days. This is the only form of choline I've tried (it's phosphatidylcholine), but the effect is like night and day, REALLY, awesome. Helps me sleep better too. I've been taking it for over a month now, I take two at bedtime. The effects last around the clock. Occasionally if I'm especially stressed out I take an additional capsule during the day. A bonus is that phosphatidylcholines have myriad other health benefits- anti-inflammatory properties, are good for the brain, the heart, the improved transmission of nerve impulses, and the liver, among other things. Highly recommended!
