"Cruelty free" is a label popping up on personal and home care products. But what does it mean? We're pretty excited about it and think you should be, too.

Cruelty Free Definition

In order for a product to be considered cruelty free, the company that produces that item needs to prove no animals were used in the testing of that product. That means neither the individual ingredients or the finished product were tested using animal subjects who cannot object. Many skincare, cosmetics and household cleaning products are tested on animals to check for adverse side effects, toxicity and allergic reactions.

Now, it's important to note a product being considered cruelty free doesn't automatically mean it is a vegan product, which means no animal products or byproducts were used to make it. If you're looking to avoid all animal involvement in a brand, make sure to look for one that is both cruelty free and vegan.
