Dry, this textured protein has the consistency of cereal or regular grain. It's crunchy and has very little taste so it's great for topping things or sneaking onto a morning breakfast.
When hydrated, the protein has a consistency of beef. I was skeptical at first, even with all the recipes telling me that was how it was, but it really had that texture when cooked into something. I've only baked it. I'd only use it in potpies or stews as a way to cut down fat, though. It's easy to flavor however you want, it won't taste like beef but rather whatever spices you mix with it.
