One of the complaints Dr. Mehmet Oz said he gets the most from patients and viewers of "The Dr. Oz Show," is they can't seem to beat their fatigue. A hectic lifestyle, diet and lack of sleep can all contribute to low energy, but what else could be going on? There may be more to your fatigue than you think and reaching for high-calorie coffee drinks isn't the answer.

In case you missed it, these three types of products were recommended on the show last week:

1. Energy Drinks
While he has often been against it, Dr. Oz suggested energy drinks this week for women who are suffering from bad fatigue and reaching for less healthy options like creamy, blended coffee drinks topped with whipped cream or cans of soda. But he did have rules. Limit yourself to one energy drink per day to control your caffeine and sugar consumption -- the more you have the harder you can crash. Look for one that has no more than 10 g of sugar and 300 mg of caffeine. Finally, skip any options with artificial sweeteners or sugar alcohols. The more natural the better. He also recommended not having an energy drink after 2 p.m.. if you plan to be in bed and asleep at a decent time.

3. Iron
Dr. Oz discussed this important nutrient Friday because an estimated one in five women are iron deficient. The symptoms of iron deficiency include chronic fatigue for one month or more, hair loss, brittle nails and a "foggy" feeling or difficulty concentrating. You also don't have to be diagnosed as anemic to have low iron. Women who are menstruating, pregnant or lactating need this mineral the most and should aim to ingest 18 mg per day through foods like cruciferous vegetables or a supplement if needed. Women who are no longer menstruating, typically age 50 and older, only need about 8 mg per day, which is easier to obtain through a balanced diet.

2. Apple Cider Vinegar
Not necessarily for fatigue, but for an exhausting problem -- dandruff. This popular cooking ingredient has many medicinal benefits that Dr. Oz has highlighted on the show. last week, he helped a young woman whose husband has lovingly nicknamed her "Snowflake" because of her extreme case of dandruff. Dandruff occurs when inflammation causes scales that are either yellow or white in color to form on the oily parts of the scalp. The scalp may also be itchy and the scales eventually flake off and end up visible in your hair and on your clothing. Diluting apple cider vinegar with water, spraying on the scalp and allowing to sit for 15 minutes before washing can really help.
