While these tribesmen weren't consuming the hoodia to help them lose weight, the news of this apparent benefit has sparked considerable interest from the scientific community and eager dieters. So, does it work?

According to published research, it's suggested a chemical compound with hoodia, known as P57, is known to affect the hypothalamus gland. The hypothalamus gland is located within the brain and regulates the appetite, controlling the feeling of need. Unfortunately, there aren't any published studies involving humans to validate these benefits. Some studies have been conducted on rats, but the results weren't clearly a "yes" or "no."

When taking a natural supplement to support weight loss, it's important to remember they affect everyone differently. Be prepared to take a supplement for four to 12 weeks before seeing major results. Here are some other suggestions to help you meet your goal:
