  1. Heart Health -- When it comes to cardiovascular health, vitamin B5 may be able to help lower "bad" cholesterol, or LDL cholesterol. Vitamin B5 is needed by the body to synthesize cholesterol, reducing the amount of lipids in the blood for individuals with high cholesterol. The type of vitamin B5 that has shown promise in this way is called pantethine. This was demonstrated in a 2011 study published in the medical journal Nutrition research.
  2. Skin Conditions -- All of the B vitamins are known to benefit the health of the skin's structure to keep it resilient and strong. This may be especially beneficial for those with skin conditions like acne. It may also help speed wound healing.
  3. Energy Production -- Vitamin B5, along with the rest of the B vitamins, helps the body convert carbohydrates, fats and protein into fuel for the body. This fuel, or energy, is needed for the body to carry out its countless daily processes.
  4. Adrenal Function -- The adrenal glands are where several important hormones are produced. Vitamin B5 is needed to help in the production of these essential hormones, specifically sex and stress hormones.
  5. Circulation -- Vitamin B5 is needed for the production of healthy red blood cells. Through proper circulation, the red blood cells bring oxygen to all the vital organs of the body to help them function properly.

Proper Usage of Vitamin B5
Vitamin B5 deficiency is not very common, as this nutrient is found in a wide variety of foods. The symptoms of vitamin B5 deficiency include insomnia and fatigue, depression, digestive upset/stomach pains and burning feet.

Here are the recommended dietary allowances (RDAs) for vitamin B5:

  • Zero to six months: 1.7 mg per day
  • Seven to 12 months: 1.8 mg per day
  • One to three years: 2 mg per day
  • Four to eight years: 3 mg per day
  • Nine to 13 years: 4 mg per day
  • 14 years and older: 5 mg per day
  • Pregnant women: 6 mg per day
  • Breastfeeding women: 7 mg per day
