When it comes to skincare products, we say the fewer ingredients the better. Making your own lip balm involves using a few ingredients you probably already have on hand with few new ones. Here's what you need:

Make sure to invest in quality, food-grape ingredients to produce the best natural lip balm. The coconut oil and vitamin E oil act as moisturizers to keep the lips soft and prevent chapping while the beeswax holds it all together and creates a more solid final product with a matte finish. You can use essential oils to a scent you enjoy but also for other benefits. For example, peppermint oil can help calm and upset stomach while tea tree oil
is antibacterial and lemon oil can be energizing and refreshing. Lastly, baking extract adds more scent and flavor. You could use almond, vanilla or any other you like.
How to Make Lip Balm
Now that you have all your ingredients, it's time to make the lip balm. It comes together very quickly -- in less time that it takes to drive to the store for a new tube. Here are the steps:
Set a pot of water over high heat and bring to a boil.Place a glass bowl on top of the pot to create a double boiler.Add beeswax and stir to melt.Add in coconut oil and keep stirring to melt together. Remove from heat as soon as the mixture liquefies.While the mixture is still warm, add in vitamin E oil along with any essential oils or extracts you want to add.
Once your lip balm has cooled a bit but is still liquid, it's time to put it into a container to store it. You have lots of options here as long as it closes with an air-tight seal. You can use an old mint tin, baby food jars or even an old makeup pot from some old lip balm
or eye shadow
. Cooking supply stores will also sell a variety of empty containers for spices that work just as well or head to the craft store for small pain pots. Once the container is filled, you can let it cool at room temperature or in the refrigerator.
