The sharp and lemony aroma of our pure, natural Lemongrass Essential Oil offers aromatherapy emotional uplift and relaxation, and helps reduce fatigue. Therapeutic Lemongrass Oil is very healing for joints and tendons and helps reduce inflammation in those areas. This steam-distilled Oil can also help with skin reactions, such as a poison oak outbreak, though it must be used in very low dilutions. Lemongrass Oil (Cymbopogon citratus) is an excellent insect repellent and a wonderful alternative to DEET.

The therapeutic properties of Lemongrass Oil are: Airborne antimicrobial, analgesic, antibacterial, antidepressant, anti-inflammatory, antifungal, antiviral, febrifuge (reduces fever) and tonic.

Lemongrass is native to India, Asia and Australia, where its long, sharp-pointed leaves are harvested for both culinary and medicinal purposes. This very hardy grass plant grows year-round. Lemongrass was distilled and exported as early as the 17th century in the Philippines.

Warnings: Topical and aromatic use only. May irritate skin and mucous membranes. Use in low dilution rates of .7 percent when applying to the skin. Use with caution on children (.5 percent) and do not use when pregnant. Oils containing Citral should be avoided with antidepressants (specifically Bupropion), which could potentially inhibit CYP2B6 enzyme. Older, oxidized oil can increase the potential for skin irritation. Always test for skin sensitivity prior to use. Do not ingest orally and keep out of eyes, ears and nose. Excessive use of any oil can lead to sensitization.

Notes: Cymbopogon citratus (Lemongrass)

Shelf Life: When stored in a dark cool environment, lemongrass will have a shelf life of approximately two years upon opening.

Recommended Use: Always dilute in carrier oil prior to using. Lemongrass Oil blends well with oils such as sandalwood, patchouli and ginger, or those from other grass-type plants. Lemongrass Oil is an analgesic, so it is a great ingredient to add to blends for pain. Blend together with sweet orange oil for uplifting the mood, or add a small amount to a diffuser with lavender to reduce anxiety.
