The buttocks is made up of three muscles -- the gluteus maximus, gluteus medius and gluteus minimus -- that give it it's shape. What can keep them from being seen are the layers of subcutaneous fat that covers them. Subcutaneous fat is located just beneath the skin and can be very difficult to get rid of. Kudzu root is high in isoflavones, which are compounds also known as phytoestrogens. These key compounds work to block the estrogen in the butt to prevent fat storage in this area. On the June 25 episode of "The Dr. Oz Show," Dr. Mehmet Oz praised kudzu as a butt-burning supplement and recommended just 100 mg per day, taken in the morning with breakfast, for the maximum benefit, in addition to proper diet and regular exercise.
Other Uses for Kudzu Root
In early studies of the kudzu root, as far back as 600 AD to be exact, it was taken medicinally to reduce cravings for alcohol, making it a popular choice for anyone looking to wean themselves off alcohol and fearing symptoms of withdrawal. While these theories haven't been proven by modern science, kudzu is still a common home remedy for a hangover.
Over its centuries of use, kudzu has been used to treat digestive issues, fever, diabetes (regulates blood sugar), menopause symptoms like hot flashes and cardiovascular conditions like angina. While studies continue as to its effectiveness in these areas, results have been positive thus far.
Taking Kudzu Properly
Kudzu root should be avoided by anyone with a blood clotting or bleeding disorder and by women who are pregnant and/or lactating. If you're currently being treated for a medical condition such as diabetes or cardiovascular disease, speak with your doctor before adding kudzu root to your routine. If you're being treated for a cancer like breast cancer, which can be sensitive to hormones, you also shouldn't take kudzu root.
