It was a big year for Dr. Mehmet Oz.. All year long on "The Dr. Oz Show," Dr. Oz promised to help everyone lose weight and be their healthiest self, regardless of age or body type. He recommended natural supplements to help you meet your weight loss goals without harsh ingredients or side effects.

One of the 150 metabolites of the hormone DHEA, 7-Keto is produced in our adrenal glands. As we age, the amount of 7-Keto produced in our bodies decreases, slowing our metabolism and resulting in weight gain. A 7-Keto supplement can help you speed your metabolism back up by promoting internal heat production to help you burn off fat. Without enough 7-Keto, our body also produces too much cortisol, which can weaken our immune system and lead to weight gain. Taking 7-Keto also benefits your brain (memory and cognitive function) and thyroid and can improve cholesterol and blood pressure levels. Dr. Oz recommends 200 mg a day in two doses, one in the morning and one in the evening. Since 7-Keto is considered a natural stimulant, it can cause insomnia if taken too late -- once you know how it affects you, you can adjust your dosage times.

This herbal supplement, produced from two plants -- Magnolia officinalis and Phellodendron amurense -- relora promotes relaxation and calm to reduce stress. Relora does this by controlling the production of cortisol, a hormone than can produce feelings of anxiety. Since cortisol also supports metabolism (and the accumulation of fat in the abdomen), it's important to keep cortisol levels balanced. By improving your mood, you're less likely to need food as a crutch. Relora may also help to suppress your appetite. Other benefits of taking relora include improved sleep and relief from symptoms of allergies and/or asthma. The recommended dosage for relora is 750 mg daily, spread throughout two or three doses.
You probably know caraway seeds as a common ingredient in dishes like curries. In addition to adding great flavor, these little seeds are rich in vitamins as well as protein and fiber. The essential oil is extracted from the seeds to be used medicinally because of its levels of terpenes. Caraway seeds can help with digestive issues which is why Dr. Oz recommended it for anyone who deals with regular bloating. The carminative properties in the seeds help to eliminate gas -- they do this by preventing the growth of bad bacteria in your intestine. You can eat a handful of the seeds themselves after each meal or try a supplement containing pure caraway powder.
The active component of the plant Coleus forskohlii (a member of the mint family), forskolin, is a trusted herbal remedy that stimulates the enzyme adenylate cyclase. This increases the amount of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (AMP) within the cells which triggers certain processes within the body. Taking forskolin can help suppress your appetite and feelings of fatigue commonly felt during dieting. This supplement also helps you build lean muscle mass and increases fat metabolism. Forskolin has also proven an effective treatment for asthma, allergies, depression and glaucoma while boosting the immune system. Dr. Oz recommended 125 mg every morning for the best results.
This is another one for the compulsive emotional eater. Saffron is credited with boosting serotonin levels, which not only make you feel happy, but full as well. Over time, you also lose those cravings for unhealthy foods, finding them less desirable. These effects can be credited to the two main components of saffron: Crocin and safranal. Additional benefits of taking satiereal saffron include better sleep, improved respiratory and digestive health and it can even help women with menstrual symptoms. This was by far Dr. Oz's favorite supplement of the year and he called it a "miracle" pill. Dr. Oz recommended taking 88 mg twice a day to help combat cravings. He gave the supplement to two audience members who were confessed emotional eaters to try for a weekend. One woman lost three pounds while the other lost five without changing their diets at all.
