As summer starts to wind down, bathing suit season may be drawing to a close but you still may be hanging onto extra belly fat. On "The Dr. Oz Show" this week, Dr. Mehmet Oz discussed natural supplements for blasting fat, especially in the stomach area.
These supplements provide a safe, natural way to lose excess fat. However, what's important to remember is they take time to work. All natural weight loss products need time to build up within the body and work best when combined with a healthy, balanced diet and regular exercise. They essentially "rewire" the metabolism and keep your body from storing more fat and burning off what it has, so you need to give them at least six to eight weeks to see results.
In case you couldn't tune in, here are the five weight loss supplements Dr. Oz recommended this week:
This compound found in brown seaweed has been shown to boost metabolism naturally and help the body burn extra white adipose tissue (fat) for energy instead of continuing to store it. When combined with pomegranate seed oil, you get Xanthigen, the proprietary blend that's produced remarkable weight loss results in clinical studies. The best part about this supplement is that it's not a stimulant, comes with no side effects and can be taken daily for years to help correct a slowing metabolism in older adults. Just be sure to look for Xanthigen on the label to make sure you're getting the best one and start with 200 mg a day.
2. Safflower Oil
Dr. Oz welcomed television personality Montel Williams to the show to speak on behalf of the Re-Body line of supplements, which makes SafSlim, a safflower oil weight loss supplement. Williams swears by the product as the reason for his washboard stomach, despite being in his mid-fifties. SafSlim combines high linoleic content safflower oil with satiereal saffron to help burn away fat in the belly. In clinical studies, the safflower oil used to create SafSlim outperformed conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) when it came to weight loss and creating greater muscle definition. Just two tablespoons daily of SafSlim can help you burn that fat.
Arginine is an amino acid, which are the building blocks of protein. Amino acids support the growth and development of strong, lean muscles. Arginine supplements are popular among athletes, both professional and recreational, for their ability to regulate hormone levels to control weight. You can find arginine on its own or in a variety of products such as energy and protein shakes as well as capsules and powders. Try taking 2,000 mg three times a day and include plenty of exercise to slim down. Amino acids also protect the tissues of the body and promote healing and arginine in particular is known to support sexual health -- never a bad thing.
4. Sacha Inchi
This fat-buster is created from seeds that are native to Peru and aptly nicknamed "Inca peanuts" because of their nutty taste after roasting. These seeds can be found in the rainforest as well as the Andes mountains and are rich in vitamin E, omega-3 fatty acids and anti-inflammatory components. This blend of compounds is especially helpful for anyone looking to lose extra weight around the midsection while protecting the vital organs and tissues of the body. Dr. Oz recommended 600 mg of sacha inchi, taken just once a day, to speed up your metabolism and help slim your middle.
Typically a drink, kombucha is made from fermented tea, but isn't alcoholic. This drink has a laundry list of uses, some of which include boosting energy levels, giving the metabolism a jumpstart for better weight loss, clearing skin and supporting proper digestion. Kombucha is also said to have anticancer properties, although this connection is still being studied. If you're looking for the drink, try one that's premade so you can be sure it's been pasteurized to guarantee safety. Dr. Oz recommended switching your daily soda for kombucha -- you could lose up to seven pounds in one year. Kombucha is also available in liquid extract and capsule form if you aren't interested in drinking the tea on a daily basis.
These supplements and thousands more are available at eVitamins. We'll be back next Friday for another look at Dr. Oz's favorite supplements.
