  • Turmeric and Ginger -- Taken in combination, turmeric and ginger reduce discomfort and swelling by blocking inflammatory pathways to increase flexibility. Turmeric contains the strong antioxidant curcumin, which protects your back from damaging free radicals by preventing oxidative stress
  • Chamomile or Kava Kava Tea -- Maybe your problem is a result of too much stress. Calm yourself down with a cup of chamomile or kava kava tea. Chamomile and kava kava both have a soothing effect on the body and can relieve the stress and tension you feel in your lower back.
  • Bromelain -- This enzyme is used by many athletes to reduce inflammation and pain from injury. Bromelain is found in pineapple and the recommended dosage is 500 mg, three times per day.
  • MSM -- MSM (methylsulfonylmethane) helps cartilage retain water which keeps cartilage between vertebra soft and spongy, absorbing the shock from movement and activity. Your back is more likely to stay healthy if the stress of everyday life is lessened.
  • Emu Oil -- Produced from the fat of the large bird, emu oil is rich in essentially fatty acids and vitamins A and E. Emu oil has anti-inflammatory properties that can decrease swelling in the lumbar region and stop the aching.
  • Fish Oil -- Fish oil can ease the pain and inflammation resulting from chronic conditions. Omega-3 fatty acids help rid the body of free radicals and have anti-inflammatory properties.
  • Peppermint Oil -- Studies are on going, but applying peppermint oil topically to the affected region can help dull the nerve endings, keeping them from sending pain signals throughout the body.

Bone Strengtheners
Simply put, when your bones are weak they're more susceptible to fractures and breaks. These supplements will help keep your bones strong and eliminate back pain caused on the structural end:

  • Magnesium and Calcium -- Magnesium and Calcium are the minerals responsible for counteracting muscle contraction and strengthening bones. While studies are still ongoing, a deficiency in magnesium is linked to chronic muscle spasms as it appears to have. The recommended dose of magnesium is 250 mg per day and calcium is 600 mg per day.
  • Vitamin D -- Studies have shown subjects with low levels of vitamin D in their body are more susceptible to chronic pain. Normally, your body creates vitamin D from the ultraviolet rays of the sun, which helps keep your bones strong.
  • Zinc- A deficiency in zinc can result in a loss of bone density. It's recommended you consume 8 mg per day if you're female and 11 mg if you're male.

These supplements are suggested to help you alleviate your pain and may not result in an overall cure.
