On "The Dr. Oz Show" this week, Dr. Mehmet Oz focused on helping you feel energized to stay active and common body issues that can hold you back. He suggested some natural remedies to banish fat, boost energy and even help you get those gorgeous legs back.
Here are the top five supplements he shared this week:
1. Aloe Vera Gel
This is one of Dr. Oz's favorite home remedies for bad breath that he and his family use in their home. Aloe vera gel has anti-inflammatory properties, due to a compound called b-sitosterol, which is why it's a popular choice for skin irritations like sunburns. The compound, when consumed orally, can also help with acid indigestion that can cause less-than-desirable breath. Dr. Oz recommended dissolving a quarter cup of pure aloe vera gel in a half cup of water to treat the source of bad breath before it reaches your mouth, or, whoever you're speaking to.
2. Three Root Tea -- Rhodiola, Ashwagandha and Schisandra
Suggested by television personality Montel Williams, the combination of these three herbs can help you feel more calm yet energized. Rhodiola (Rhodiola rosea) has long been taken to increase stamina and energy and is a favorite among athletes. Ashwagandha (Withania somnifera), also known as Indian ginseng, also helps with energy, physical strength and mental health. Schisandra supports a healthy liver to make sure toxins are removed from the body that can make you feel poorly. All three are also adaptogens. You can drink a tea made from these three herbs or take them in capsule form.
3. White Bean Extract
Everyone wants a smaller belly, but stressing about that, along with everything else in your life, could be the reason you're storing fat there. Dr. Oz explained that carbohydrates are a common choice for stress-eaters and those carbohydrates go straight to the midsection. He recommended trying 500 mg of white bean extract a day to help block carbohydrate absorption. White bean extract has been shown to emit an enzyme called alpha-amylase, which prevents the storage of these carbohydrates as fat. Take it with a heavy meal and, after a testing period, you can move up to two doses a day.
4. Moringa Oleifera
Still wishing you had more energy? Dr. Oz recommended this supplement, produced from the leaves of the Moringa oleifera tree as a natural energy booster that won't give you nasty side effects like the jitters. These leaves contain lots of iron, vitamins like A and C, calcium and potassium which will keep you in the game all day long. You'll also be getting antioxidant protection so you keep feeling great. Dr. Oz recommended drinking a tea made from the leaves to avoid guzzling coffee all day or taking it in supplement form, aiming for 400 mg a day.
5. Hesperidin Varicose veins can be incredibly painful and their appearance can make you want to hide in pants all year long. Varicose veins occur when the veins in the legs lose their shape, resulting in the collection of blood and swollen, visible veins. Dr. Oz recommended hesperidin, a plant bioflavonoid that occurs naturally in citrus fruits as a home remedy. Taking 50 mg daily, hesperidin can help the veins regain their venous tone to hold their shape and promote proper circulation. He also suggested you can also combine it with 450 mg diosmin, another flavonoid, for even better results.
