In honor of the fourth season of "The Dr. Oz Show," Dr. Mehmet Oz spent the week explaining ways to kick start a new chapter in your life. Whether it was losing weight or correcting a digestive system that just seems out of whack, Dr. Oz proposed safe, healthy ways to take back the control and make positive changes.

Feel like you need to make a change? Here are the five types of supplements Dr. Oz mentioned this week on his show:

1. Green Coffee Bean Extract
Green coffee beans are high in chlorogenic acid which helps to inhibit glucose absorption and speed up the metabolism to burn fat. Dr. Oz put the popular weight loss supplement he first mentioned back in March to the test. Dr. Oz gave 100 women in his audience either a placebo or a green coffee bean extract supplement. All of the women were overweight, but healthy otherwise. The women who had the supplement were taking a 400 mg dose of the extract three times a day, about 30 minutes before each meal. All 100 women were asked to keep a food journal but not make any major changes to their diet or lifestyle. The women who took the green coffee bean supplement lost an average of two pounds in two weeks.

2. DHA Omega-3
If you're worried about the health of your heart, DHA omega-3 fatty acids are the way to go. Found in fish oil, DHA can help lower triglycerides, "bad" (LDL) cholesterol and prevent plaque from forming within the arteries. Dr. Oz recommended 600 mg of DHA omega-3 daily for optimal cognitive and cardiovascular benefits. You can try a liquid or softgel supplement, but be sure to look for a bottle that says "DHA" on it. Many omega-3 supplements will provide a breakdown of the DHA and EPA contents. Keep your supplement in the fridge to keep it fresh longer.

3. Selenium
Dr. Oz highlighted this essential trace mineral for its ability to support proper thyroid function. Many women can attribute fatigue and excess weight gain to a slowing thyroid gland, which regulates metabolism and energy usage within the body. He recommended adding selenium-rich foods to your diet, which include Brazil nuts, whole grains and fish like halibut and sardines. You can also try a supplement. The recommended dietary allowance (RDA) for selenium (for adults) is 55 mcg. Not only does selenium benefit the thyroid gland, it also strengthens the immune system and supports proper circulation.

4. Prebiotics
When you think of natural ways to remedy digestive issues, most people now think of probiotics, which are good bacteria that live in the gut. However, in order for these good bacteria to thrive, you need prebiotics as well. Taken separately, either in supplement form or in foods like spinach and ginger, prebiotics act like food or a fertilizer for the probiotics, helping them to survive and grow within the acidic conditions of the stomach. The two combined can help keep digestive problems, like bloating, at bay that can make you physically uncomfortable.

5. Low-Dose or "Baby" Aspirin
Another supplement for the cardiovascular conscious, beginning a baby aspirin regimen can help lower blood pressure in people over the age of 40. Dr. Oz recommended 81 mg of low-dose aspirin, taken before bedtime. He suggested drinking half of an 8-oz glass of water before or with the pills and drink the other half after you've taken them. As with all of the supplements previously mentioned, you should be sure to speak with your healthcare provider before adding baby aspirin to your daily routine, especially if you're pregnant, nursing or being treated for a diagnosed medical condition of any kind.
