An eight-week study published in 2010 in the journal Nutrition Research found that participants, after taking two capsules totaling 176.5 mg of satiereal saffron daily, experienced reduced cravings and did less snacking between meals, helping to promote weight loss. The supplement was first featured on "The Dr. Oz Show" on February 20, with two guests showing three and five pound losses in weight after taking the same dose of satiereal saffron daily for the weekend.

Chromium Polynicotinate
A common form of supplemental chromium, this product can help reduce your cravings for the type of food so many of us reach for -- sugar. Whatever your poison, be it soda, candy or donuts, sugary foods can cause drastic blood sugar spikes and crashes and lead to excess weight gain. Chromium polynicotinate contains vitamin B3, also known as niacin. First recommended by Dr. Oz in February and again on April 18, this supplement helps to reduce cravings for sugar by helping to regulate insulin production. By keeping you from experiencing those highs and lows in blood sugar, you don't go reaching for more. Dr. Oz recommended 200 mcg of chromium polynicotinate daily. 

More Ways to Calm Stress
These two supplements can help you take your mind off your stress and potentially help change how you look at food. Beyond supplements, there are other ways to combat stress:

  • Meditation -- Taking even 10 minutes to turn your attention into yourself can help you feel grounded and more relaxed.
  • Aromatherapy -- Essential oils like chamomile and lavender can help ease tension.
  • Physical activity -- Running, walking, yoga and even dancing are all ways to burn off some steam and get your daily exercise in.
  • Reading -- Pick a book, magazine, newspaper or whatever you like to escape for a bit. Maybe stay away from War and Peace or The Iliad to avoid adding more stress. 
  • Listening to music -- Get lost in your favorite album to help calm yourself.

Whatever you choose, you'll be doing something good for yourself every day. If you still feel your emotional eating is out of control, speak with your doctor about additional options to help curb your stress and avoid overeating to maintain the healthy body weight for your height.
