Dr. Bronner's is one of the top-selling, most recognized brands out there for natural personal care and household cleaning products. Want to know the story behind the brand? That's why we've chosen Dr. Bronner's as our featured brand of the month.
Who Is Dr. Bronner?
Emanuel Bronner, aka Dr. Bronner, was born in 1908 in Germany. After attending university to study chemistry and receiving his Soapmaking Master certificate, he moved to the United States in 1929, bringing the traditional soapmaking techniques he'd learned from his family with him. Around 1948, Dr. Bronner's the brand was established. A boom in health and social consciousness first made Dr. Bronner's soaps a sensation in the late 1960s and they've remained a staple on the shelves on health food stores and larger retailers ever since.
What Makes Dr. Bronner's Products Unique
The first thing that sets Dr. Bronner's products apart is the long history and expertise behind them. The Bronner family has been making soap for more than 150 years, making them experts in something that seems so simple but is so essential to a healthy home. Members of the family's fourth and fifth generations continue on this tradition today. The next unique thing about this brand is the ingredients they use. Their best-selling soaps are made with USDA certified organic ingredients and nothing artificial, so you can trust what you're getting.
The brand's most famous product is their Pure Castile Soap, available in a variety of formulations and in both liquid and bar form. This type of soap was invented by the family, the Heilbronners (Dr. Bronner would drop "Heil" from his name around the time of World War II), back in the late 19th century in Germany. Castile soap has a base of oil, usually olive oil, which is combined with lye to create soap and essential oils for fragrance and additional cleansing benefits. When the company was founded around 1948, Dr. Bronner introduced Peppermint Oil Pure Castile Soap and a new chapter in the legacy began.
Castile soap is incredibly hydrating and gentle. Dr. Bronner's castile soap can be used as a hand wash, body wash or shampoo, but can also be used to clean fabrics and as a household cleanser. It's the product's versatility that has made it so popular, along with its natural ingredients.
Today, the brand works hard to uphold their mission to be a socially responsible company that considers their customers, the environment and their supplies when making their products. Check back next month to learn about another of our best-selling brands!
