North American Herb & Spice was the first company on the American market to introduce edible Oil of Oregano. They are the oregano experts! This was the result of extensive research. To be edible, this essential oil must be made only from wild, mountain-grown, Mediterranean oregano, free of all chemicals and pesticides. It also has to be emulsified in a carrier oil such as extra virgin olive oil, which is used by North American Herb & Spice in its oil of oregano. The oregano we use is the real, 100% Mediterranean oregano, guaranteed to be handpicked in the pristine, untarnished wilderness. They even pay the villagers to limit picking to preserve and protect the plants. Their oil is produced by old-fashioned cold pressing and steam distillation. We use no chemicals to extract it. Oil of Oregano is an herbal product that has been used since biblical times. It was widely used in ancient Greece for many medical purposes. Oil of Oregano is a potent antiseptic, meaning it kills germs. Research proves that it is highly effective for killing a wide range of fungi, yeast, and bacteria as well as parasites and viruses. Their oregano oil is extracted from wild edible true oregano species. It may be used topically and taken internally. Oil of Oregano is derived from an edible herb belonging to the category Origanum vulgare.
Their oil is extracted from a true oregano species. The majority of the oils available commercially are derived from non-oregano species, particularly various types of marjoram as well as species of thyme. According to Julia Lawless, author of The Encyclopedia of Essential Oils, the vast majority of oregano oil is mislabeled, because it is derived from a thyme, that is Spanish thyme. |

| Health Encyclopedia |
Oregano is an aromatic perennial herb that can grow to about two feet in height. It is native to the Mediterranean region but is cultivated worldwide. In addition to European oregano, there are several types of related species, including Greek/Turkish oregano (Origanum onites) and Mexican oregano (Lippia graveolens, Lippa palmeri). These should not be considered substitutes for true oregano, though they may have similar properties. The leaves as well as the volatile oil of these various species are used medicinally, but must be carefully distinguished as they are quite different.1 Read more on Oregano/Wild Marjoram > View References |
