Propecia coupled with Minoxydilyl works great. I stopped losing hair when I went on it about 6 or 7 years ago. The problem is that it is so incredibily expensive at about 70 to 75 dollars a month! I work over one day a month just to pay for it. There is no Generic alternative for this drug. The irony is that it is the same medicine used in the treatment of prostate cancer at about an 1/8 of the cost. My doctor would not prescribe it for me and let me use a pill cutter to create my own doses. The bottom line is that Merck knows that the market will bear the price in the name of Vanity. It is not fairly priced. As soon as the patent is up and the Generic is available I will make the switch. Drug companies are simply greedy.

I actually took this for about 3 months, 5 years ago then stopped. What happened after I stopped taking the medication was a nightmare. I had a HUGE panic attack and mood swings for a few days following, and then for some reason had no tolerance for caffeine. I was prescribed klonopin to handle the anxiety that never went away after that panic attack. All of the physicians I saw dismissed that it could be the Propecia. So for 5 years I go through feeling not quite right, and going through various antidepressants/anxiolytics to moderate my mood.

Then I started taking finasteride (and yes, they do have generic if you buy from overseas pharmacies - just Google "Finpecia") again about three weeks ago to finally see if that would make a difference. It did! My anxiety has disappeared, and I'm not sure whether to be elated or scared. I'll probably check with my physician to get a referral to an endocrinologist. Anyhow, I actually feel relatively normal again. I'm not sure how this will affect my hair loss, but for now I'm using it to control my anxiety. I gave a low rating because of the effect it had on me for 5 years.
