Hydrocodone Interactions with Foods and Other Compounds
Food
may cause gastrointestinal (GI) upset. -containing products may be
taken with food to reduce or prevent GI upset.1 A common side effect of narcotic
analgesics is constipation.2
Increasing dietary fiber (especially
vegetables and whole-grain foods) and water intake can ease constipation.
Alcohol
may cause drowsiness, dizziness, or blurred vision. Alcohol may intensify these
effects and increase the risk of accidental injury.3 To prevent problems, people
taking hydrocodone should avoid alcohol.

I have had a spontaneous xnemothourax (collapsed lung) around 20 times! I have never had a chest tube to relieve the pressure in my chest by letting out the air that seeps out of my lung through pin holes and into my chest! Every breath I take is very painful! The first time my lung collapsed I didn't know what it was! My chest hurt constantly and my whole right side of my body went numb but with an excruciating pain. I was having cold sweats and I knew I had to go to the doctor! They kept me overnight! They were giving me shot after shot and pill after pill all of it worked! They prescribed me vicodin 5mg 500mg! It really helped. Before I took it I couldn't move, but afterwards I could walk around with no problem. The only thing I had was shortness of breath. Since then however, I have gone back for my chest and they think I am just there to get vicodin, so they don't pay to much attention to me. One doctor on call at my hospital in Elyria told me that a collapsed lung does not hurt. What a crock! Long story short, Vicodin works!

I was in a horribly, serious car accident in '01. Crushed pelvis, hip, both arms broken. I am somewhat a rather chubby version of the bionic woman, without the perks.
I've been on vicodine/hydrocodone since I was in physical therapy. Without it, I hardly walk, my shoulder gets so stiff I can't hook my bra and my groin throbs and is very painful. I also have a hernia that erupted in one of the very long scars I have from the first pelvic surgery. My hernia has not been repaired, due to the nerve damage in my left lower abdomen and hip. It doesn't commumicate to stay in a holding pattern, so I am a walking hernia time bomb. I am hoping to get it repaired soon. When I am not on pain meds, I hurt and can't get anything done (there were later problems from one of the surgeries, that caused severe nerve and muscle damage in my thigh and butt. These will never heal completely due to the damage). Yes, I am lucky to walk, glad to be alive, but hate that I am in this position at such a young age (I am 43).I am hoping to one day be off of Vicodin, but for now, it is keeping me able to be a mom, to walk more than I would off of pain meds and more. If it is a last resort or a resort that works for you, I wish you luck for a pain free life. If you don't suffer from any kind of pain on a daily basis, you truly are living a blessed life.
